Is Cloud Server Marketing a Misnomer?

With the recent developments in cloud computing, many IT managers are hailing this new technology as the next-generation of business technologies. In simple terms, cloud computing involves the use of the central, remote server to store applications and related information across the enterprise. These applications are provided through the internet or wireless connection and can be accessed by any user, regardless of their location. This makes it an ideal choice for businesses that require flexibility and manageability with regards to applications and storage.

servidor virtual provides a number of advantages over physical servers. The foremost advantage is cost, which can be considerably reduced with the use of virtualization. By the same token, users can access the server through the internet from any place and do so at much lower costs than that of running their own private server. Physical servers also restrict the level of data security available to the user, particularly in the case of network security.

Virtualization also offers users greater control over the physical aspects of their infrastructure. For example, businesses that operate on a virtualized infrastructure can easily create custom configurations to suit their specific needs. The main disadvantage associated with cloud servers is the absence of a true end-to-end IT management system. There may be instances when there is no centralized control mechanism to ensure that the requirements of the end-users are met. This lack of end-to-end management has been cited as one of the reasons why VDI usage has declined over the past decade.

Similarly, cloud computing and virtualization differ greatly in terms of service and support. Many IT managers are quick to point out the deficiencies in cloud platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics GP, Salesforce, and Oracle. In comparison to these popular ERP platforms, cloud servers offer substantially less functionality. It is common to see these products still relying on the old model of email, spreadsheets, contact and calendar management, even though there is a lot of new functionality that can be added through the integration of third-party tools and frameworks. In addition, while some cloud computing solutions have been tailored to meet the needs of large companies, there is very little software out there designed for small and medium-sized businesses.

Perhaps the biggest cloud server misconception is that purchasing a server is an easy buying decision. Purchasing cloud servers requires plenty of research into the services and vendors available to you. You should not just choose your company's first offering because it was cheap. Instead, take the time to study the product line and consider what you might need in the future. Even though you're paying a lower price for the service right now, the long-term cost of maintaining this infrastructure could be far more than what you currently pay for it. In addition, most VDI providers are not compatible with UNIX or Linux-based operating systems.

The bottom line is that cloud servers are very different from your traditional computing infrastructures, but they are not without their own challenges. As you determine how much you're willing to spend on a cloud server, it's important to factor in the capital expenditure that will be involved in maintaining and securing the system as well as any other capital expenditures incurred by your business. It's also important to factor in how much bandwidth, storage, processing power, and hard drive space you'll need at any given time. If you have questions about how to proceed, there are many professionals out there who can provide you with advice and guidance based upon their experience. Alternatively, you can simply talk to those individuals you work with currently to get their recommendations.  You may need to check out this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_hosting_service to get more info on the topic.
